The iPhone 12 line introduced 5G and the A14 Bionic chip across four models in October 2020 — including the first iPhone mini since the original iPhone 5. Every model shares the same iOS support window, but each has its own model identifier and its own IPSW firmware file. Using the wrong one will not work.

Quick answer: all four iPhone 12 models currently run iOS 26.6.1 (build 23G83), the latest signed release. iOS 26.6 (23G71) is also still signed.

How to Restore an iPhone 12 with an IPSW

Back up your device, turn off Find My (Settings → your name → Find My → Find My iPhone), connect to a Mac or PC with a Lightning cable, and in Finder, the Apple Devices app, or iTunes hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and click Restore, then select the IPSW for your exact identifier. All four iPhone 12 models use a Lightning connector. If the iPhone is unresponsive, put it into recovery mode first.

iPhone 12 and iOS 27

The iPhone 12 uses the A14 Bionic, which has supported every iOS release since iOS 14. Whether A14 devices receive the next major release depends on Apple’s cutoff announcement, which typically comes at WWDC.

iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11 and iPhone 13

The iPhone 11 (A13 Bionic) preceded the 12 and is one generation back but currently runs the same iOS 26.6.1. The iPhone 13 (A15 Bionic) followed and also runs current iOS. Firmware is never shared between generations — each identifier needs its own IPSW.
